Abstract

Since its founding 40 years ago, Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (BCAS) has always kept pace with the development of national science and technology. Based on its positioning as a think tank journal, it has built an all-round, multi-level, and three-dimensional think tank communication system, becoming an important bridge connecting the scientific and technological community, decision-makers, and the industrial community. Taking the 40th anniversary of the journal as a starting point, this study systematically sorts out its development process, including three stages: the “official journal” of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the core media of national science think tank, and the diversified communication platform of national high-end science and technology think tank. It summarizes its practices in improving journal-running capabilities, covering editorial board construction, topic selection and planning, publishing quality assurance, all-media communication, and international communication. It also expounds the influence and awards of the journal, and prospects its future development, so as to provide reference for sci-tech think tank journals in the new era to fulfill their missions and serve the overall situation of national scientific and technological innovation.
