Review and Outlook on Concept "Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains Are Invaluable Assets" at Its 20th Anniversary: Scientific Connotation, Strategic Value, and Case Study-Scientific Connotation

Abstract

The global ecological environment is confronted with severe challenges such as intensified climate change, drastic reduction of biodiversity and land degradation, which seriously affect the sustainable development of human beings. These challenges promote profound reflection on the relationship between human beings and nature. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) has emerged as an innovative concept of global ecological governance thateffectively responds to societal challenges. Its development has gone through embryonic stage, developmental stage and comprehensive application stage. Multidisciplinary principles such as restoration ecology and landscape ecology constitute the theoretical foundation of NbS. China has effectively integrated the concept of NbS with the construction of ecological civilization, innovated and developed the policy system, spatial planning, technical standards, etc., and formed a practical path with Chinese characteristics. Aiming at the challenges of science and technology, policy, and finance that China’s NbS development will face in the future, we propose to strengthen theoretical and technological research, optimize the policy mechanism, build a green financial system, and strengthen the localization of practice and innovation research and other related suggestions, so as to promote the further integration of NbS into the construction of Ecological Civilization, and to provide China’s solutions and contribute China’s wisdom to the global ecological governance and sustainable development.
