The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is committed to promoting cooperation and exchanges in education, science and culture, and has established a number of Category Ⅱ centers in China. Following the development of UNESCO has reference and guidance significance for promoting the international cooperation and exchange between Chinese institutions and UNESCO in the fields of science, technology, engineering, culture, etc. Sourced from the Web of Science, this paper presents a study of 4 936 UNESCO academic papers from 2010 to 2019 to obtain the development trend of science and technology through the perspectives of the output of papers, research topics, and international cooperation in bibliometrics. The result shows that the number of academic papers increased annually in the past decade, with the proportion of highly cited papers as high as 1.64%. These UNESCO papers cover 21 fields with characteristics of interdisciplinary, including ecology & environmental science, chemistry, earth science, engineering, biology and biochemistry, material, physics, plant and zoology, and agriculture. Disaster risk reduction, Africa, Woman, Youth and Cultural Protection are the traditional priority fields of UNESCO. In the past decade, UNESCO cooperated with the countries worldwide, while dominantly in Europe, especially in the Netherlands. This study puts forward the suggestions for the cooperation between Category Ⅱ centers in China and UNESCO in the future, coving key disciplinaries, traditional priority fields, international cooperation network, COVID-19 prevention and control, and China's contribution and profile. The implications are also presented as well.
