Abstract
Amid the intertwined contexts of global climate change, the reshaping of the geopolitical landscape, and China’s economic transformation, complex issues in the resource sector have increasingly come to the fore, highlighting the urgent need for systematic research from the perspective of economic geography. This study constructs an interactive analysis framework of core–extended dimensions to systematically review the developments and trends in resource research from an economic geography perspective. This study establishes a two-layer theoretical analysis framework of core and extended dimensions. The core dimension includes four aspects: resource elements in regional economic development, resource flows in global trade networks, resource governance in global value chains, and sustainable resource management in the transition to a circular economy. The extended dimension incorporates analyses from the perspectives of security and resilience, innovation and technology diffusion, institutional and policy frameworks, as well as social and cultural views, forming a foundational and supportive synergistic relationship between the two. Additionally, the study finds that current resource research from the economic geography perspective shows five emerging trends: the intelligent reconfiguration of resources driven by digital technologies, geopolitical competition over critical minerals and the construction of resilient supply chains, spatial justice in the circular economy and multi-scale collaborative governance, and the integration of social culture with diversified governance.
